Fred Newton, MD
Spine Specialist and Physiatrist

Specialties:

Nonsurgical treatment for spine pain and other pain conditions
Interventional spine procedures
Spine and musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment
Electrodiagnostic testing

Fred Newton, MD, is a board-certified physiatrist, with a subspecialty certification in pain medicine, who joined Piedmont Orthopedics in 2008.

As a physiatrist, Dr. Newton helps patients with physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Newton primarily sees patients who are suffering from spine pain, muscle, bone or joint pain or other painful conditions. He conducts a thorough pain history and physical exam, sometimes combined with electrodiagnostic tests, to assess and accurately diagnose the pain source, which leads to the best treatment plan. The treatment plan typically includes advanced nonsurgical techniques to reduce pain, with a focus on getting people back to work and play.

Procedures Dr. Newton performs include spinal injections, in-office radiofrequency ablation for arthritic neck, thoracic pain or low-back pain, and implantation of spinal cord stimulator trials for persistent pain.

Focus on Patients

Dr. Newton particularly enjoys helping patients who are in severe, debilitating pain reduce their discomfort and begin to enjoy life again.

“I enjoy working as a team with these patients, helping them as they go through treatment, and seeing them arrive at a point where they can say, ‘I may not be 100 percent, but I am much better than I was, and I am back to doing the things in life that I enjoy.’ "
