Christopher Blackman, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who joined Piedmont Orthopedics in 2005. He performs all types of orthopedic surgery, including surgery for trauma and hand injuries, but has a special interest in knee and hip replacement surgery. He was the first orthopedic surgeon in Greensboro to regularly perform anterior approach hip replacement surgery, a less invasive technique that helps to preserve muscle and generally results in less pain and faster recovery for the patient. He also sees patients with general orthopedic problems, including sports injuries and pediatric fractures.

Focus on Patients
Dr. Blackman is dedicated to helping patients with orthopedic problems.

“What I most enjoy about being an orthopedic surgeon in general is the ability to help someone with a fracture or with severe arthritis return to a high level of function or improve their quality of life,” he says. “Helping those in need is really why I became a physician. I truly feel lucky to do what I do and am passionate about my job. I can honestly say that I go to work happy every single day.”

Background and Interests

Dr. Blackman graduated from, and completed his residency at, the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. Although he was born in Durham, Dr. Blackman and his twin brother Douglas (a general surgeon in Greensboro) grew up in High Point, where his parents still live. Many people in the Triad remember his father.

“I still enjoy people coming up to me and asking about my father, Fred Blackman, who was a television news anchor at WGHP-TV8 for more than 30 years,” he says. “I love to hear people talk about growing up watching my dad on TV.”

Dr. Blackman and his wife, Yvette, have a daughter, Lindsay.

“I spend most of my time outside of work playing with my daughter, riding bikes with my wife and daughter, and traveling around North Carolina as a family,” Dr. Blackman says. “Whether it is wading in creeks at local parks, visiting Greensboro's Natural Science Center or working on art, we are always together on an adventure as a family.”

For exercise, Dr. Blackman enjoys playing an occasional round of golf and riding his mountain bike. “I always try to stay fit,” he says.
