Founded in 1968 by John H. Dilworth, MD, and James Maultsby, MD, Piedmont Orthopedics began blazing new trails in orthopedic medicine almost immediately. Shortly after opening the practice, Dr. Dilworth became the first orthopedist in Greensboro to perform hand surgery using a microscope – a technique he had developed while serving as an orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Army.
Over the years since then, Piedmont Orthopedics has continued to bring state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, treatments and surgeries to the region.
Among our latest advances: Christopher Blackman, MD, was the first surgeon in Greensboro to regularly perform anterior approach hip replacement surgery, a leading-edge technique that can reduce recovery time for patients.
Marcus Duda, MD, who has a subspecialty in diabetic and other complex foot and leg wounds, expects to begin clinical trials in 2013 on a medical sock he has developed which shows great promise in healing chronic and complex wounds.
